Athens is a small town with big city amenities: along with the University of Georgia come State facilities such as the Georgia Museum of Art, the State Botanical Gardens, and Sanford Stadium (capacity 90,000), the home of the Georgia Bulldogs, and the University has a student body of 37,000.
Besides football, Athens and UGA have plenty to offer in the way of basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming, equestrian events, golf, etc. with a number of sporting facilities.
Not only does the University have the Performing Arts Center with world class performances and concerts, but also the city of Athens has the "Classic Center" where likewise world class events are held.
The Athens-Clarke area boasts numerous hotels, restaurants, parks, theatres, a visual arts center (Lyndon House) and downtown is a hub for the rock music world.
Athens has 2 major hospitals that serve the North Georgia area.
